My copy of this new book by iconographer Aidan Hart arrived the other day. It is a quite wonderful tome, very detailed and full of useful information, tips and resources taking icon making from the very first stages (chopping your own wood for the board; unlikely, I may say, for me, at this stage!!) right through to photographing the finished work. It has been lovingly done, and as well as being practical, gives fair space to the theological aspects which are so important in iconography. Such a book is especially a boon for someone like me who simply cannot get away during term-time to attend courses (short or otherwise – why are they never in the holidays?). Obviously, a book does not replace a real iconographer – but it is the next best thing.
More details of the book can be found here.
